Now, now, SGM

From Hiram E. Ortiz -
To pvtmurphyslaw@aol.com
"Now, now SGM"...what an insult to 30 years of service
by a 1.5 year
kid. As a former CSM, I found this offensive and "drama producing" for
all of them "I'm in charge" young LT's. Please clean up your act.
You
know very well that LT's don't outrank SGM's!

Hiram,
Well, actually they do. Any Officer, or Warrant Officer
out ranks any enlisted Soldier. Remember: "We salute the rank, not the man (or
woman)." But it's just ridiculous that a new LT would say this to a CSM... But that's why the cartoon is funny, see?
It's satire.

Mark,
Technically correct...but this feeds
into a LT's soul that he/she can actually talk to a CSM that
way. May be funny to LT's and company grade "kids", but not
funny to the backbone of the Army. You must be a "rifted" or
retired officer or warrant, OR a soldier who ETS'd without
reaching full potential, and are now making your point. Excuse
my bluntness, but this is what I perceive here. Am I correct?
You CANNOT be a retired Sr NCO for sure. Keep up the
(partially) good work! Thanks.

Hiram,
You're right.
Technically it is correct - exactly! Again, that's the point (the funny part) of
this cartoon!
You are
probably not familiar with my cartoon. This is the first one you've
seen right? (Since we are making assumptions/perceptions - there's mine. I
normally get the angry letters from folks that are seeing “Murphy” for the
first time.) Lighten up Brother, it's just a cartoon. I really don't believe
it is feeding anyone's soul. That's just silly.

Thanks. Wrong again
though...seen it many times (cartoon). Was my assumption correct (about
you)? Bet it was. After 30 years of service, I know what these company
grade kids like; they like "ego food", and when it's delivered in the form
of a cartoon they actually believe it (note the term kids, as many are just
that). Nevertheless Mark, keep doing a good job, I've lightened up, and I'm
not going to let it bother me, because, as you state, that's just silly...

Hiram,
Actually I'm a retired MSG.
Didn't make SGM/CSM but I don't hold that against the Army - completely
my choice to retire. I don't have any ill will against the Army or any of
the outstanding Soldiers who serve. But after 20 years active duty I've
got a pretty good take on our way of life and I show it through my cartoons
in a light-hearted manner. Some people like the cartoons, others do not.
That's the nature of the beast when you produce something that is viewed by
a diverse audience.
I don't find your personal
attack on me offensive (well, a little - but it's easy for people like you
to be brave when you're not face to face with me.) - I deal with that from
readers from time to time.
It's healthy, and it lets me know
that people are reading my cartoon.
