AAFES

Mr. Baker,
Reference your “Pvt. Murphy” cartoon in the 28 July edition of Army Times, you
assert that AAFES charges a higher price for T-shirts depending on whether the
buyer is at home station or deployed.
I’ve done some quick research (checking with AAFES military clothing sales
stores in OIF and in CONUS, as well as our online store AAFES.COM) and for the
issue item (DSCP 3 pack T-shirts, sand color, ACU / ABU) the price is $13.35
regardless of shopping location.
On a hunch I also checked Army PT T-shirt prices (IPFU Short Sleeve T-Shirt,
Heather Gray, Crew Neck) – AAFES sells these for $6.20, both in CONUS, online
and in Iraq.
AAFES procures all of its issue clothing items from the Defense Personnel
Support Center (DPSC) and is required to sell these items AT COST. AAFES prices
for issue clothing items should be identical regardless of store location.
If you are personally aware of an exceptional case please let me know so I can
engage on our customer’s behalf.

Folks, LTC Thurmond is a direct help line. My
cartoon may be inaccurate (maybe not) if you have a issue/incident with AAFES
please let LTC Thurmond know about it. He's got your back.
Thanks!

Mark,
Ok....maybe the pricing isnt that large of a difference, but there is some
gouging being done In Theatre!
Why are there no Camelbaks, but 2 different colors of 2 slice toasters are
available?
Why is there 50 sets of winter PT's on the rack but not a pair of PT shorts or
T-shirts? (I have checked weekly!)
Why are there no Mens PT shoes but 10 styles of womens?
Why are there ISLES of JUNK FOOD, but no healthy snacks?
Why are there 10 different toothpastes, but only Gillette shaving cream?
Why do they sell tons of junk to live FOBULOUS, but no combat gear!
You can choose from 10 different carpet styles, and plastic shelving, toasters,
and microwaves.
But my soldiers cant even get a Camelbak bladder!!!
Tell me, is having a warm poptart, or a bowl of Ramen noodles more
important then us GRUNTS being hydrated on a patrol?
I eat chow at the DFAC.
Maybe we wouldnt need to look at letting fatbodies in the ARMY if everyone would
eat at the DFAC and not 'OODLES of NOODLES!
But I have opened another can o' worms completely...sorry.
But really where in FOB Loyalty, or Rusty can a guy get a Camelbak bladder for
his troops!
And I would buy a couple pairs of winter APFU's if it wasnt 130 outside!
And maybe some more High Speed boots like from Oakley or 511 or Converse. We all
know that the GI Junk is just that Junk....when it comes to ruckin' through
Baghdad!
So thanks Mark....tell the Sir to "Sic em!"
